Iowa couple recovering at home from hot air balloon crash after hospital stay



An Iowa couple is still recovering nearly two months after a hot air balloon crash.Rich and Irene Wheeldon were badly burned when the hot air balloon they were riding in hit a power line and caught fire.It happened during Indianola’s National Balloon Classic.  After nearly six weeks in the hospital, the Wheeldons are now recovering at home.Rich suffered burns over more than a quarter of his body.  The recuperation process includes strenuous physical therapy and daily stretching, but he remains positive. “Everyday is a little victory. Making sure we are going forward and trying to deal with this little detour we are taking in our life,” Rich Wheeldon said.The hot air balloon pilot and a 13-year-old also survived the crash. The FAA is currently investigating the crash’s cause.
